Pricing was not announced for the 2014 Mazda 6 with the 2.2-liter clean-diesel engine.

The 2013 Mazda 6 starts at $21,520, including shipping.

The 2014 Mazda 6 Grand Touring model starts at $30,290, including shipping.

The 2014 Mazda 6 goes on sale in January, with the clean-diesel model set to go on sale in the second half of 2013, according to Mazda.

Pricing for the 2014 Mazda 6 undercuts several of its key competitors, including the 2013 Ford Fusion, 2013 Hyundai Sonata, 2013 Toyota Camry and 2013 Nissan Altima.

The base 2013 Ford Fusion S FWD starts at $22,495, including a $795 destination charge, and the base 2013 Hyundai Sonata GLS starts at $21,770, including a $775 destination charge.

The base 2013 Toyota Camry L starts at $22,850, including a $795 destination charge, and the base 2013 Nissan Altima 2.5 starts at $22,550, including a $790 destination charge.

Edmunds says: The 2014 Mazda 6 comes out of the starting gate with an aggressive pricing strategy, but the Japanese automaker remains mum about how much the diesel version will cost.
