IRVINE, California — The 2015 Mazda MX-5 Miata 25th Anniversary Edition sold out within 10 minutes, the automaker said on Tuesday.
All 100 limited-edition models were reserved via an exclusive online pre-order program.
The MX-5 Miata 25th Anniversary Edition will arrive at dealerships beginning in late summer, along with the rest of the 2015 MX-5 Miata lineup.
The 25th Anniversary Edition starts at $33,000, including a $795 destination charge, for vehicles equipped with a six-speed manual transmission. Those equipped with an automatic transmission start at $33,450, including shipping. There are no additional packages available and all anniversary models are equipped with a power-retractable hardtop.
"The consumer anticipation and fervor with which the limited-edition model was sold was not entirely unexpected but a pleasant surprise nonetheless," said the company in a statement.
The top-of-the-line 25th Anniversary Edition only comes in Soul Red Metallic exterior paint with Brilliant Black trim. Details include 17-inch Dark Gunmetal aluminum alloy wheels and 25th Anniversary Edition badging.
Edmunds says: One of the most coveted special models of the year is snapped up by enthusiastic car buyers.
