- Ford is recalling 6,308 2012-'13 Ford Focus Electric and 2013 Ford Focus ST cars to fix faulty side marker lamps.
- The vehicles may be less visible in nighttime conditions.
- The recall is expected to begin in mid-August.
The affected vehicles are equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights. "Due to a wiring incompatibility, the front side marker lamps may not function," said NHTSA in its summary of the problem. "Without the proper illumination of the side marker lamps, the vehicle may be less visible in nighttime conditions, increasing the risk of a crash."
The affected Focus Electrics were built from September 15, 2011 through May 6, 2013. The 2013 Focus STs were built from February 16, 2012 through May 7, 2013.
Ford dealers will modify the headlight assembly wiring. The recall is expected to begin in mid-August. Owners can contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332.
