2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon Priced from $86,090, but Full Power Costs Just $1 More

The 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is priced from $86,090, including a $1,700 gas-guzzler tax and $1,095 destination charge, but owners can now unleash the beast's full power for just $1 more.

The standard Challenger SRT Demon is no slouch with its 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V8 that snorts out 808 horsepower and 717 pound-feet of torque. But enthusiasts who consider those numbers a bit too plebeian can shell out an extra buck for the personalized, numbered Demon Crate package that amps up the output to 840 hp and 770 lb-ft of torque, perfect for sunny Sunday meanderings down the local dragstrip.

The additional oomph comes from such components as a performance powertrain control module, with high-octane engine calibration, and a conical performance air filter. Other Crate items include a replacement instrument panel switch module with a high-octane button, a personalized ID badge, two narrow, front-runner drag wheels and a set of Demon-branded tools.

As previously reported by Edmunds, the dragway is this Demon's natural habitat. It arrives with drag radials mounted on all four wheels, and Dodge says that "every component was scrutinized and optimized for weight, capability and durability on the strip." That includes leaving out the front and rear passenger seats, although they can be added for $1 each.

The result is the first-ever production car that can do wheelies, as certified by Guinness World Records. Dodge notes that it's also the world's fastest production car in the quarter mile, with an elapsed time of 9.65 seconds at 140 mph, as certified by National Hot Rod Association.

But buyers who don't intend to race can outfit the Challenger SRT Demon for a skosh more comfort. Options include heated and ventilated leather seats, a heated steering wheel, a premium Harman Kardon audio system and even a sunroof.

Production of the limited-edition 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon begins later this summer with deliveries to Dodge/SRT dealers starting in the fall.
