2015 Ford Mustang Among Vehicles Recalled for Faulty Side-Door Latches

DEARBORN, Michigan — Ford is recalling about 830,000 vehicles, including the 2015 Ford Mustang coupe, to replace defective side-door latches, the automaker said Thursday.

Other vehicles included in the recall are:

This is a regional recall for vehicles in states with higher ambient temperatures and "solar loading," Ford said in a statement.

The states include Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah and Washington.

"In the affected vehicles, the pawl spring tab in the side-door latch could break," Ford said. "This condition typically will prevent the door from latching. In certain situations where the door is able to be closed, the door may unlatch while driving, increasing the risk of injury."

There is one reported accident and one reported injury that might be linked to the recall, the company said.

Ford and Lincoln dealers will replace the side-door latches.

A customer satisfaction program is also being launched for vehicles outside the scope of the recall.

"If a vehicle exhibits a broken door latch, Ford will provide a one-time replacement at no charge for the life of the vehicle," the company said.

A date has not been set for the recall. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673 or Lincoln customer service at 1-800-521-4140.

No information about the recall has been posted on the website of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Edmunds says: Owners of these vehicles should stay in close touch with their dealer regarding parts availability.
