Mel Hambelton Ford Scores With 2016 Ford Mustang Contest

WICHITA, Kansas Mel Hambelton Ford scored big with a sharp-shooting basketball contest that lets fans go from zero to a 2016 Ford Mustang in 30 seconds.

The Shock My Ride contest awards a two-year lease on a new Mustang and free insurance to a random fan in attendance at a men's Wichita State Shockers home basketball game. The contestant must sink a free throw, a 3-point shot and a half-court basket in 30 seconds.

While the dealership has had the promotion all basketball season, it had its first winner, Alex Durano, a junior at the university, who was already driving a 2006 Mustang, late last month.

The win has had a positive impact on the dealership's social-media sites, particularly on Facebook, in local media and on its bottom line, owner Lisa Hambelton told Edmunds.

"We've had a lot of people coming in to shop, talking about it," Hambelton said.

Hambelton said the buzz was instant.

"People were so excited for him, the arena crowd was on its feet cheering about his win but because he won during a TV timeout, it was difficult to get the crowd to settle down because of their enthusiasm," she said. "Even the players were distracted."

Hambelton is ready for another winner.

"We had a yellow Mustang with stripes for Alex but the next one is all black," she said. "I hope someone else wins."

Edmunds says: This dealership lights up the scoreboard with a great contest.
