2015 Audi A3 Sedan Earns Five-Star Safety Rating From Federal Government

WASHINGTON — The 2015 Audi A3 sedan earned the top five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

On sale now at Audi dealerships, the 2015 A3 sedan received four stars in the front crash test, five stars in the side crash test and four stars in the rollover crash test.

The rating applies to front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions of the A3 sedan.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named the 2015 A3 as a 2014 Top Safety Pick+. The A3 scored "good" ratings in all Institute crash tests.

Audi of America said the A3 sedan offers several advanced technology features that are new to the entry-luxury segment, including: standard Audi Pre-Sense basic system, which helps detect when an emergency maneuver is being made and prepares the vehicle and its occupant restraint systems in advance of a possible collision.

The A3 also introduces secondary collision brake assist and is the only vehicle to offer this system as a standard feature, according to Audi. The system automatically brakes the car after a collision to prevent a secondary collision with nearby or oncoming traffic.

Other standard safety features on the A3 include electronic stability control and antilock brakes.

Key A3 competitors include the Acura ILX, Buick Verano and Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class.

Edmunds says: Car shoppers should note that the 2015 Acura ILX and Buick Verano also earned the top five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA. The 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class has not been rated.
