Toyota of McDonough Generates Showroom Traffic With School-Supply Drive

McDONOUGH, Georgia Toyota of McDonough is finding it's pencil-pushing for the first time ever, as it hosts a back-to-school supply drive to benefit nearby Rocky Creek Elementary school.

While the drive runs through August 31, the Georgia dealership hopes the majority of the pencils, composition notebooks, crayons, glue sticks and the like will be dropped off inside the showroom next to the displayed 2015 Sequoia and Camry by August 1, in time for the first day of school.

GM Mike Neves and Internet Director Lonnie McNear will distribute them at Rocky Creek's first-day assembly August 3.

The dealership has decided to make the school-supply drive an annual event, but will pick a different school each year, McNear told Edmunds.

"We were looking for a way to be a bigger part of the community and when we heard about Rocky Creek's needs, we got involved," McNear said.

The drive, in turn, has brought the community into the showroom. McNear said he's seen many of the donors check the cars out.

Toyota of McDonough also is offering teachers discounts on car purchases throughout August.

"We've taken some calls on that teacher discount already," McNear said. "It's a nice response when you are finding new ways to reach out to the community."

Edmunds says: A dealership learns the power of community through back-to-school basics.
