BURLINGTON, Massachusetts — Herb Chambers Porsche of Burlington and Audi Burlington are bringing out a limited 2016 Porsche 911 GT3 RS to launch the year's first Herb Chambers Cars and Coffee gathering May 14 from 7-10 a.m.
This version of "Cars and Coffee" is a free traveling car event throughout greater Boston that showcases a collection of new cars interspersed with antique, classic, exotic, hot rods and motorcycles from enthusiasts throughout New England.
The Porsche and Audi dealership clears its 300-plus-car inventory to open the parking lot to like-minded car lovers who park their ride, mingle and talk shop.
The first Boston-area Cars and Coffee began in 2010, and customers anticipate it every year, Adnan Sehovic, general manager of Porsche of Burlington, told Edmunds.
"It's a big topic of conversation. I do get people asking about it all year long," Sehovic said.
He expects more than 450 people to attend the season opener.
Many of them are families, said Nicole Martin, executive assistant to the president at the Herb Chambers Companies. "It's a relaxing event rather than a selling situation. Families feel welcomed here because we've created that community feeling for like-minded people to come together to swap car stories."
Sehovic says that guests often get into the buying mood despite the no-pressure situation. One customer last year ended up buying two cars that morning.
"About a third of the group is repeat customers," he said, and a lot of them like to congregate around the lifts in the service bays where attendees hoist their cars to show others the underbelly of their vehicles.
"They ask our technicians a lot of questions, too," Sehovic said.
Edmunds says: Bringing together car fans is an opportunity to introduce a dealership to new eyes.
