Blue Springs Ford to Award Charities $1,000 Monthly in Online Contest

BLUE SPRINGS, Missouri — At Blue Springs Ford, the checkbook is always open for a good cause.

After polishing its 2015 Ford Mustang Convertibles and its Fusion Hybrids, it gives away $1,000 a month to needy charities in an online contest known as "Helping Others."

The giveaway is part of a 20-year plan to spend $250,000 in the community it serves.

"This isn't about selling cars. It's a gift from the heart," General Manger Kyle Harris told Edmunds.

Normally, local residents nominate several charities and whichever one receives the most votes wins, but occasionally Dealer Principal Bob Balderson gives the money to an outfit he knows is deserving.

April's winner, for instance, is the Blue Springs Historical Society, while the May one is earmarked for Wounded Warriors Family Support.

That's because Blue Springs Ford has been hand-picked to host the Kansas City-area's only stop on the Wounded Warriors Family Support's High Five Tour on May 23.

An American-flag wrapped 2015 Edge and an F-150 will be onsite. Guests are encouraged to sign the tour vehicles with a message of support for veterans and their families. After the tour, the vehicles will be auctioned off, with the proceeds going to the Wounded Warriors.

"Last year the car was a Mustang and it was just filled with positive messages," Harris said. "It was heartwarming to see the community coming together for veterans."

Edmunds says: A long-term commitment to doing good is the hallmark of this dealership.
