2016 BMW Alpina B6 xDrive Gran Coupe Due in BMW Showrooms This June

WOODCLIFF LAKE, New Jersey — The more powerful 2016 BMW Alpina B6 xDrive Gran Coupe sedan will be available to order starting in March, with an arrival in BMW showrooms set for June.

Pricing will be announced closer to the on-sale date, according to BMW of North America. But luxury shoppers can expect a price tag of around $120,000.

The 2015 BMW Alpina B6 Gran Coupe starts at $118,250, including a $950 destination charge.

This special-order vehicle gets a significant power boost for the new model year.

The 4.4-liter bi-turbo V8 engine delivers 600 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque, for an increase in output of 60 hp over the 2015 model. The horsepower increase is due to an "extensive rework" of the air-intake ducting and air filter housing, along with enhancements to the fuel-supply system, the automaker said.

BMW calls it the "fastest-accelerating BMW Alpina model ever developed," with a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 3.6 seconds. Alpina is a German aftermarket tuner.

Standard equipment has been beefed up to include full LED adaptive headlights, and a new B6 model designation in the B-pillar.

Other details include an eight-speed sport automatic transmission, all-wheel drive, a full stainless steel exhaust system with twin tailpipes and a new front spoiler.

The cabin is equipped with Blue Alpina instrumentation and a standard navigation system with BMW ConnectedDrive.

This hot-rod version of the BMW 6 Series targets high-end versions of the Audi A7, Maserati GranTurismo and Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class.

Edmunds says: Car shoppers with deep pockets will have a real challenge choosing between the exclusive BMW Alpina B6 xDrive Gran Coupe and the BMW M6 Gran Coupe.
