CYPRESS, California The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution will be discontinued in the U.S. after the 2015 model year, the automaker told Edmunds.

"I can confirm that 2015 will be the last year for Evo," wrote Alex Fedorak, a Mitsubishi Motors North America spokesman, in response to an Edmunds query.

Pricing for the 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution has not been announced. The base 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution starts at $35,805, including an $810 destination charge.

The high-performance sedan, which is sold in GSR and MR trim levels, is expected to arrive at dealerships later this summer.

The action means the newly redesigned 2015 Subaru WRX STI will stand alone in this segment after 2015.

There are few changes to the 2015 Lancer Evolution. The car is equipped with a carryover 291-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine. The GSR model comes with a five-speed manual transmission, while the MR is equipped with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

All-wheel drive is standard on both versions of the Lancer Evolution.

Heated sideview mirrors are now standard for the 2015 model year. The GSR model gets an optional Premium package that includes a power sunroof, Rockford Fosgate sound system with nine speakers and heated front seats.

Mitsubishi does not break out sales of the Lancer Evolution in its monthly report. The automaker sold just 8,848 units of the Mitsubishi Lancer in the first half of this year, according to its June sales report.

Edmunds says: It's a good time to see your Mitsubishi dealer before the Evo rides off into the sunset.
