"Certain seat frame attachment hooks were not properly attached to the vehicle body during assembly," GM said in a statement.
No crashes, injuries or fatalities are linked to the recall.
Another 4,620 affected vehicles are in Canada.
Chevrolet dealers and GMC dealers will inspect the potentially affected seats for proper installation and repair them, if necessary. A date has not been set for the recall. Owners can contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1010 or GMC customer service at 1-800-988-7267.
No information about the recall has been posted on the Web site of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which oversees vehicle safety in the U.S.
