2015-'16 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Among Vehicles Recalled for Powertrain Problem

WASHINGTON — Mitsubishi Motors North America is recalling 82,436 vehicles, including the 2015-'16 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport SUV, for a powertrain problem, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Other vehicles included in the recall are the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander SUV and the 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer sedan.

"The affected vehicles are equipped with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that, in certain driving conditions, may cause a delay in the vehicle accelerating," NHTSA said in its recall summary. "A hesitation during acceleration can increase the risk of a crash."

A Mitsubishi spokesman did not respond immediately to a query from Edmunds asking if  any injuries or accidents are linked to the recall.

Mitsubishi dealers will reprogram the CVT control unit with modified software. The recall began on August. 15. Owners can contact Mitsubishi customer service at 1-888-648-7820.

Edmunds says: If you own one of these vehicles, it's time to make a service appointment with your Mitsubishi dealer.
