Overview
Sports car enthusiasts, hold back your tears: This is the last year of the GR Supra. Toyota introduced the fifth-generation GR Supra in 2020 after a long hiatus, and it's time to say farewell again. Many have criticized Toyota for the GR Supra's BMW Z4 roots, but this Japanese sports car isn't tuned like a Z4 and doesn't look like anything from BMW. The GR Supra was developed to be a sports car that can compete with pricier rivals and give owners an engaging driving experience, and that's exactly what it did during its seven-year run. To commemorate the last year of the GR Supra, Toyota introduced the MkV Final Edition (or Mk5, which is Supra speak for fifth-gen) performance model.
Edmunds spotlight: The MkV Final Edition
The MkV Final Edition is the top model for the 2026 GR Supra. Toyota boosted the Supra's already impressive performance credentials with several upgrades including larger front Brembo brakes, improved chassis bracing, and performance-tuned suspension, steering and traction control systems. Exterior treatments include dark 19-inch wheels and a carbon-fiber ducktail spoiler and mirror caps. Inside, the MkV Final Edition features GR (Gazoo Racing) embroidered headrests, red seat belts and a MkV Final Edition plaque. It also comes with a GR car cover. The optional GT4 Style package adds GT4-inspired exterior graphics and is exclusive to the MkV Final Edition. As with the other trim levels, the MkV Final Edition can be equipped with an automatic or manual transmission.
Competitors to consider
The BMW Z4 M40i shares the same platform and engine with the GR Supra, but it's a pricier convertible and isn't as fun to drive. If you want something with more than two seats, consider the BMW M240i or M2. Both coupes are a blast to drive and ride on a similar platform and share similar engines with the GR Supra. The Nissan Z is another storied nameplate and a fellow Japanese rival that boasts a strong turbocharged V6 and a comfortable ride. However, it falls short of the GR Supra's performance and driver engagement unless you go with the top Nismo model.

The Edmunds Vehicle Testing Team evaluates a fresh batch of vehicles every week, pairing objective assessments at our test track with real-world driving on city streets, freeways and winding roads. The data we gather results in our Expert Ratings. They’re based on 30-plus scores that cover every aspect of the automotive experience.Performance
Comfort
We wouldn't call this a quiet cabin since there's a fair amount of road and wind noise, but it's not unpleasantly loud either. It lets in the right amount of induction noise and exhaust burbles when you're driving in Sport mode. As for the climate control system, there's no obvious way to sync its two zones, which is odd. It could stand to be a tick stronger at max fan speed too.
Interior
The GR Supra's doors are a little shorter than average and fairly light. Even if you're of average height, you may need to watch your head, but at least the seat bolsters don't impede access. In general, spaciousness is not this car's greatest strength. The Porsche Cayman and BMW M2, for example, do a better job of making a cockpit feel roomy.
Technology
Adaptive cruise control is optional with the automatic transmission only. When so equipped, it works effectively. It's more aggressive than most systems and can keep a small gap between you and the car ahead if you want it to. It also works all the way down to a stop. Lane keeping assistance isn't quite as effective. It'll mitigate lane crossing but doesn't really keep you centered.
Storage
The small-item storage space is even more deficient in the cabin. The cupholders are located where an armrest bin would typically be. And if you store drinks in them, they will interfere with operating the infotainment system controls. The wireless device charging pad is small and plus-size phones won't really fit in it. The door pockets and glovebox are also small.
Fuel Economy
Value
Toyota's warranty coverage is a trade-off compared to competitors. There's less bumper-to-bumper coverage but better powertrain coverage. Two years of scheduled maintenance is also included.

Which GR Supra does Edmunds recommend?
The 3.0 Premium is the model to get because, for a relatively small upcharge, you get red Brembo brake calipers with the Supra logo, a head-up display, launch control, and an upgraded infotainment system that features Apple CarPlay and a 12-speaker JBL sound system. But if you're a Supra fanatic and have the budget for the MkV Final Edition, don't hesitate to get it.
