2016 Lexus ES Bound for Showrooms Later This Year

SHANGHAI, China — The refreshed 2016 Lexus ES entry-luxury sedan will arrive at U.S. Lexus dealerships in the fourth quarter of this year, Lexus spokesman Maurice Durand told Edmunds on Monday. The 2016 ES made its global debut at the 2015 Shanghai Auto Show.

The most traditional car from Toyota's premium division gets a "daring" look for the new model year, according to the automaker.

The midcycle update includes a wider spindle grille, LED headlights and running lights, redesigned foglights and interior upgrades.

The new look is designed to make the ES stand out in a crowded segment that includes the Acura RLX, Cadillac XTS and Kia Cadenza.

Pricing has not been announced.

A new 2.0-liter direct-injection four-cylinder engine will be available in other global markets, but not here. The U.S. version of the 2016 ES and ES 300h hybrid will feature carryover engines, Durand said.

The carryover engines include a 3.5-liter V6 and a gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain consisting of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor powered by a battery pack.

New exterior colors include Amber, Nightfall Mica, Caviar and Eminent White Pearl. New interior colors include Flaxen, Parchment, Stratus Gray and Black. Bamboo interior trim now has a matte finish.

The 2016 ES also gets a new sporty steering wheel.

Edmunds says: Lexus hopes to draw younger shoppers into the showroom with the aggressive new look of the ES sedan.
