Mini Cooper Roadster Goes to Head of the Class in New Quality Survey

SAN DIEGO — The Mini Cooper Roadster earned the top model score in the 2015 Strategic Vision Total Quality Index released on Friday.

The Chevrolet Colorado midsize pickup truck and the Mazda 3 sedan also were standouts in the survey.

Strategic Vision called the Colorado win in the standard pickup segment as "significant," since it represented "the first domestic leader in over a decade," in the category.

The Mazda 3 took home honors in the small-car segment.

Fiat-Chrysler achieved an impressive victory in the new index, notching the highest corporate Total Quality score for the first time since the study began in 1995. Fiat-Chrysler models took home 1st place in several product segments. They include:

*Fiat 500: Small multi-function car
*Fiat 500e: Small alternative-powered car
*Dodge Charger: Full-size car
*Dodge Challenger: Specialty coupe
*Jeep Wrangler Unlimited: Entry SUV
*Dodge Durango: Midsize SUV

"FCA has incrementally risen from one segment leader in 2010 to six segment leaders in 2015," said Christopher Chaney, Strategic Vision senior vice president, in a statement. "It's hard to not be in admiration of the turn-around achieved by FCA company employees."

Volkswagen Group of America and General Motors were also top overall performers in the new survey.

Land Rover was rated the best luxury brand, while Ram is the best non-luxury brand.
BMW/Mini had six segment winners. They are:

*BMW i3: Near-luxury alternative-powered car
*BMW 3-Series Wagon: Luxury multi-function car
*BMW X4: Near-luxury utility
*BMW X5: Luxury CUV
*Mini Cooper Countryman: Tied with Challenger for specialty coupe

The Subaru WRX and Kia Optima tied in the midsize car segment.

The Nissan Titan led the full-size pickup segment, while the Honda Odyssey won in the minivan category.

The Cadillac Escalade and Land Rover Range Rover Sport dominated the luxury SUV segment. The Buick Encore and Volkswagen Tiguan were standouts in the entry CUV category.

Other winners include the Honda Accord Hybrid in the midsize alternative-powered car segment, the Mercedes S-Class in the luxury car segment and the Chevrolet Corvette convertible in the premium convertible category.

The Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class and the Lincoln MKZ tied in the near-luxury car segment.

The Hyundai Genesis coupe took home honors in the premium coupe segment, while the Nissan Murano and Ford Flex tied in the midsize CUV category.

Among trucks and SUVs, the GMC Yukon XL stood out as the best full-size utility, while the GMC Sierra 2500/3500 won the heavy-duty pickup segment crown.

Survey results are based on more than 46,000 responses from new car or light-truck customers.
