The 2025 Cadillac Optiq is the smallest and most affordable EV from GM's luxury brand. It's comfortable and easy to drive, offers a spacious cabin, and exceeded its range estimates in the Edmunds EV Range Test. Disappointing smartphone integration and slow charging speeds keep the Optiq from being a class leader.Read full review

Overview
The new 2025 Optiq is Cadillac's smallest and most affordable electric SUV. It's part of the brand's sizable electric SUV lineup that also includes the larger Lyriq, three-row Vistiq and the huge Escalade IQ. Despite being the baby of the family, the Optiq comes well equipped. It has standard dual electric motors that provide quick acceleration and all-wheel drive. The EPA estimates that the Optiq can go up to 302 miles on a single charge, and with the available charging adapter, the Optiq's fast-charging options are greatly increased thanks to its ability to charge at Tesla Supercharger stations.

Edmunds spotlight: Tech-loaded and value-packed
Many luxury vehicles charge extra for most tech and driver assist features, but not the Optiq. All models come standard with a huge 33-inch display screen, a 19-speaker AKG audio system, a 360-degree camera system, and a Google Built-In infotainment system that features Google Maps navigation. Standard advanced driver aids are also extensive and include the Super Cruise hands-free driving system, front and rear emergency automatic braking, blind-spot intervention and several other driver assist features that help make driving safer. All this standard equipment sounds expensive, but the Optiq starts at a lower price than most of its electric rivals.
Competitors to consider
The Tesla Model Y is a good place to start. It boasts a long range, lots of cargo space, and some futuristic features. For luxury-brand alternatives, you could check out the Audi Q4 E-tron, Genesis GV60 or Volvo EX40. The Optiq's big sibling, the Lyriq, is a solid alternative if it fits your budget. Check out our test team's Expert Rating below to help you decide if the Optiq is the right EV for you.

Very Good
7.2
out of 10
We drove the 2025 Cadillac OPTIQ on our test track and on real roads. Our Edmunds team conducts rigorous independent vehicle testing, driving 500,000 miles a year.
Driving experience
7.5/10
How does the Cadillac OPTIQ drive? The Cadillac Optiq comes standard with all-wheel drive, so it has no trouble putting power to the road. In our testing, it needed 5.9 seconds to get from 0 to 60 mph. That's middling performance for an electric SUV, but in real-world driving, the Optiq has enough power to zip around city streets or easily pass other cars on the freeway. Braking performance is solid too. While panic stopping distances were only average in our testing, the Optiq was stable under hard braking. It also allows for full one-pedal driving, meaning you can simply lift off the accelerator pedal to slow down and come to a stop during routine driving.
The Optiq isn't sporty — you'll feel it lean when you drive around corners with enthusiasm — but it's sufficiently stable. It also does a decent job riding smoothly over bumps and ruts in the road, but some rival SUVs offer more compliance in their suspension.
The Optiq comes standard with many advanced driver aids, including Cadillac's excellent Super Cruise technology. It allows for hands-free driving on highways. These systems aren't perfect, but Cadillac's is among the best. A surround-view camera system is standard, which helps make up for the vehicle's small mirrors.

Comfort
7.3/10

Cadillac uses a mix of physical and digital controls inside the Optiq. Because so much is tied to the screens, the learning curve is a bit steep (it took us too long to find the trip odometer, for example), but everything is easy to reach and adjust. The climate control still uses real switches, and the AC blows cold even on hot summer days.
Installing a car seat is relatively straightforward thanks to easily accessible Isofix anchors. There's enough roof for a larger rear-facing seat too.
In-cabin tech
7.6/10
How’s the tech? The Optiq, like other EVs from GM such as the Cadillac Lyriq or Chevrolet Blazer EV, uses a Google-based infotainment system. If you have a Google account, you can log into various apps and have things like your navigation waypoints or calendar accessible. The interface looks great with the Optiq's large OLED infotainment screen, and menus become easy to navigate after a short time behind the wheel. Conversely, GM refuses to offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto in any of its EVs, meaning the only way to connect your smartphone is with Bluetooth, limiting functionality. At least the Optiq offers USB-C ports in both rows as well as a wireless charging pad. The Optiq is also available with household-style outlets in the rear seat and the hatch.

Storage & cargo
6.9/10
How’s storage and cargo? The Optiq offers 26 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats up or up to 57 cubic feet with the rear seats lowered. That's a good amount space for the class, with more space than rivals from Polestar or Genesis. The area itself is wide, deep and taller than you might expect given the sharp angle of the rear window. The rear load floor drops down, further increasing height (at the cost of a completely flat load floor). Storage inside the rest of the cabin isn't quite as good, but there are still plenty of good spots to put a phone, sunglasses or wallet. We found that the bin between the front seats is an ideal spot to put a purse too.
Value
8/10
Is the Cadillac OPTIQ a good value? The Optiq is Cadillac's smallest and most affordable all-electric model. It costs more than base variants of the Tesla Model Y but is right on par with rivals from Audi and Genesis. The Optiq comes pretty well loaded out of the gate, with options limited to a few niceties. We also like the Optiq's upscale interior. There are nice-feeling materials throughout the cabin, and our test vehicle was well assembled and did not have any notable build flaws.
Range/Efficiency/Charging
5.8/10
How are the range and efficiency? Every Cadillac Optiq comes with an 85-kWh battery pack and gets an EPA-estimated 302 miles of all-electric range. We bested that in the Edmunds EV Range Test, driving 339 miles on a single charge. We also beat the EPA-estimated consumption figure of 33 kWh of electricity used for every 100 miles of driving — we got 29.8 kWh/100 miles. (Lower figures are better here.) On both fronts, the Optiq fares well. Charging speed is the main thing holding it back. With peak charging limited to 150 kW at public DC fast-charging stations, the Optiq doesn't charge nearly as quickly as other EVs we've tested.
X factor
7/10
The Optiq features a scaled-down version of the design you'll find on other electric Cadillacs like the Lyriq and Vistiq. It's distinctly Cadillac, with clean lines and stylish accents both inside and out. Unfortunately, it's not quite as sporty or fun to drive as other electric SUVs. It's decently quick, but the Optiq lacks the punch and sporty handling you'll find in rivals from Tesla or Genesis.
2025 Cadillac OPTIQ trim level differences
The 2025 Cadillac Optiq is a five-passenger compact electric SUV. It's available in two styles, Luxury and Sport. Each comes in two equipment levels labeled 1 and 2. Every Optiq is powered by an 85-kWh battery pack and comes standard with dual motors that provide all-wheel drive. Its electric powertrain produces 300 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque and delivers 302 miles of range. Compare the 2025 Cadillac OPTIQ trim levels in-depth.
Which OPTIQ trim does Edmunds recommend?
Picking between Sport (dark exterior trim) and Luxury (chrome exterior trim) themes comes down to your personal preference, but when it comes to the equipment level, we suggest 2. The price difference between levels 1 and 2 is minimal for a $55K SUV. The Luxury 2 and Sport 2 add a little more luxury and tech with features like a head-up display and ventilated front seats.

Nice Ride!
5 out of 5 starsR Moore, 08/11/2025
2025 Cadillac OPTIQ Sport 1 4dr SUV AWD (electric DD)
I’m new to the Cadillac brand trading in my incredible Lexus RX 350 to try something new. This is a nice comfortable ride, very appealing cosmetically. First EV, love the acceleration and the charging at home has worked so far but Level 2 install is scheduled.
To complain - the cell phone interface is absolutely disappointing, and there is no rear windshield wiper, but dollar for … dollar, it’s a great buy.
It is well-equipped and I prioritized vehicle color so I have a Sport 1 with 21 inch wheels; it has great curve appeal! The rear seats have ample room for a 6 foot tall individual. The vehicle has a distinctive look, and the EV range appears to be consistent with projections. I have concerns about the long-term wear of the fabric/canvas accents over time so that is needing to be scotch guarded. I’ve never owned a GM product before so I am skeptical about the extreme depth of the dashboard and extended hood length, but the seats and suspension seem to be well-tuned to prioritize comfort.
The main complaint is that the dashboard interface is less user-friendly for wireless interface and there is no foot kick sensor to open the rear cargo door.
My other vehicle is a BMW X5 and in it - I feel preppy because the ride is much more stiff and sporty feeling, so I enjoy the trade off as I do feel more executive and luxurious in the Cadillac. To be very particular, the BMW distinct advantage is the seat extension behind my knees, which provides extra comfort. We absolutely loved our Lexus and yet the Optiq has not presented any regrets.
