DEARBORN, Michigan — Car shoppers in winter-weather states may want to check the box on the new 2016 Ford Focus RS Winter Wheel and Tire package.
The $1,995 option offers a unique set of wheels and tires for tackling snowy weather. Ford said this is the first time an original equipment manufacturer is making such an option available in North America.
"This tire package allows RS owners to continue spirited driving even in the snow," said Adam Wirth, Ford Performance chassis supervisor, in a statement on Wednesday.
The package combines 225/40R18 Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 tires and 18x7.5-inch wheels. They are finished in "sparkle silver" to hide salt spray. Ford said owners are able to fit tire chains, if necessary.
Ford dealers will install the set.
The Focus RS arrives at dealerships this spring, starting at $36,605, including an $875 destination charge.
Edmunds says: This is shaping up as a must-have option for Focus RS buyers who don't want the high-performance hatchback to be slowed down by snow.
