Overview
Minivans aren't viewed as particularly cool modes of transport. That's why the 2026 Kia Carnival tries so hard to not be a minivan, even if it very much is one. It's spacious and offers lots of cargo space and, of course, sliding rear doors. There's a hybrid model on offer, too, just like rivals from Toyota Sienna and Chrysler Pacifica, though we review that vehicle separately. Kia introduced the Carnival in 2022 and updated the model with new styling and fresh tech for 2025. We don't expect any major changes for the 2026 model.
Edmunds spotlight: Hybrid power means fewer stops
Kia updated the Carnival for 2025, with the biggest addition being a new hybrid variant. The Carnival Hybrid's EPA-estimated combined rating of 33 mpg, 12 mpg better than the non-hybrid model. The initial cost is higher, but you'll make up the savings at the pump after a few years of ownership. That's not counting the time you save by having to stop less frequently. And if you're still on the fence, remember that most SUVs can't offer this much passenger space with fuel economy this great.
Competitors to consider
The Kia Carnival is one of the few remaining minivans on the market, but the field is arguably better than it's ever been. The long-running Toyota Sienna is still Edmunds' favorite thanks to its excellent fuel economy, comfortable interior and competitive price. The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid offers a plug-in powertrain, though it's a bit more expensive than the Carnival. The Honda Odyssey is getting a little long in the tooth, but it's still worth a look if you're in the market for a minivan.
