WOODCLIFF LAKE, New Jersey — The 2017 Mini Seven, a special-edition model that honors the classic Austin Seven and Morris Mini Minor, will arrive at Mini dealerships in late summer, Mini USA announced on Tuesday.
Pricing will be announced closer to the car's launch date.
"The name Mini Seven recalls the premiere of the revolutionary British small car more than five and a half decades ago," the automaker said in a statement.
The special model will be available in two- and four-door versions of the Mini Cooper and Cooper S. It targets other small-car competitors, including the Chevrolet Sonic, Fiat 500, Ford Fiesta and Hyundai Veloster.
Color is a key part of the equation for Mini buyers, and this version provides four choices. They are Lapisluxury Blue, Pepper White, Midnight Black and British Racing Green.
The roof and exterior caps of the Mini Seven are finished in Melting Silver, regardless of the exterior color choice.
Other details include special 17-inch light alloy wheels or optional 18-inch Vanity Spoke wheels.
In the cabin, the standard trim includes sport seats in Upholstery Diamond Malt Brown. Optional choices include Cross Punch Carbon Black leather, Lounge Satellite Gray leather and Mini Yours Lounge Carbon Black leather.
Engine choices include the 134-horsepower 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine for the Cooper models or the 189-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine in the Cooper S models.
A six-speed manual transmission is standard.
Mini Seven options include a panorama glass roof, Harman Kardon hi-fi speaker system and power-folding exterior mirrors.
This is the first special edition of the latest-generation Mini.
Edmunds says: Small-car shoppers with a nostalgic bent will be thrilled with this new offering from Mini.
