FAIRFAX, Virginia Sheehy Auto Stores is gearing up to launch the 17th Annual "Sheehy 5000" fundraising campaign, an effort that benefits the American Heart Association.

The goal is to sell 5,000 cars in 50 days with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the charity.

The Sheehy 5000 has raised more than $100,000 each year for a designated charity.

Each of the 18 Sheehy dealerships throughout Washington, D.C., Richmond, Virginia and Baltimore, Maryland will lead various initiatives in support of the campaign, including "Love Your Heart" stations with information about heart disease and stroke. The dealerships will also host blood-pressure screenings and CPR training.

"The issue of heart disease is important to us because it affects so many of our employees, customers and their families," said Vince Sheehy, president and CEO of Sheehy Auto Stores, in a statement on Wednesday.
