WASHINGTON — The 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek SUV earned the highest five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The XV Crosstrek received four stars in the front crash test, five stars in the side crash test and four stars in the rollover crash test.

The rating applies to the gasoline and hybrid versions of the 2015 XV Crosstrek.

Standard safety equipment on the XV Crosstrek includes seven airbags, including a driver's knee airbag, along with antilock brakes, stability control and traction control. All-wheel drive is standard.

The 2015 XV Crosstrek is expected to arrive at Subaru dealerships later this fall.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not rated the 2015 XV Crosstrek.

Key competitors to the XV Crosstrek include the Hyundai Tucson, Mini Cooper Countryman and Nissan Juke.

Edmunds says: Car shoppers should note that the 2015 Hyundai Tucson earned a four-star overall safety rating from NHTSA. The 2015 Mini Cooper Countryman and Nissan Juke have not been rated.
