2015 Audi A3 Cabriolet Recalled for Improper Side Airbag Deployment

WASHINGTONVolkswagen Group of America is recalling 904 2015 Audi A3 Cabriolets for improper side airbag deployment, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

"The affected vehicles have a driver or front passenger seat whose cover may be incorrectly stitched, preventing the side airbag from properly deploying in the event of a crash," said NHTSA in its recall summary. "Improper side airbag deployment may increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash."

A stop-sale order has been issued to Audi dealers.

No accidents or injuries have been linked to the recall, Volkswagen told federal safety regulators. The problem is due to a supplier error.

The affected A3 Cabriolets were built from June 5, 2014 to April 1, 2015.

Audi dealers will replace the driver's and/or front passenger's seatback cover. The recall is expected to begin in February. Owners can contact Audi customer service at (800) 822-2834.

Edmunds says: Audi dealers are waiting for parts so they can begin the repairs. If you have an immediate concern, it's best to contact your dealer now.
