2014 Ford Fusion Earns Five-Star Safety Rating From Federal Government

WASHINGTON — The 2014 Ford Fusion earned a five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions of the 2014 Fusion received five stars in front crash tests and four stars in the side and rollover crash tests.

NHTSA has not yet rated the 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid.

The 2014 Ford Fusion Energi, a plug-in version of the Fusion Hybrid, earned a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA. This model received five stars in front and side impact tests and four stars in the rollover crash test.

The 2014 Fusion earned the Top Safety Pick+ designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The Fusion received "good ratings in all IIHS crash tests, but earned an "acceptable" rating in the small overlap front crash test. The test is designed to replicate what happens when the front cover of a vehicle collides with another vehicle or an object like a tree or utility pole.

Standard safety features on Fusion include seven airbags, including a driver knee airbag, along with antilock brakes, traction control and stability control. New for the 2014 model year are optional inflatable rear outboard seatbelts.

Competitors to the Fusion include the Chevrolet Malibu, Honda Accord, Nissan Altima and Toyota Camry.
