Subaru Previews New Starlink Connectivity System at 2015 New York Auto Show

NEW YORK Subaru of America is giving car shoppers a preview of its new Starlink connectivity system at the 2015 New York Auto Show.

Starlink will be available in select 2016 Subaru vehicles starting later this year. Subaru did not announce which vehicles will be the first to get the new Starlink system. Pricing will be announced later.

It is being displayed on a 2016 Subaru Forester SUV at the auto show.

Automakers are offering a wide range of these types of systems, from GM's OnStar to Hyundai's Blue Link.

The Subaru system will feature built-in AT&T 4G LTE capability. Two buttons in the cabin link the Subaru driver to a Starlink advisor who can provide help in an emergency or call for roadside assistance.

The system also can tap into entertainment apps such as Pandora, iHeartRadio and Aha, displays texts, and lets the driver use voice commands for music and navigation.

Starlink also includes a vehicle diagnostic system that sends an e-mail alert in the event of a problem.

"The Subaru Starlink technology is the next step in vehicle connectivity for Subaru," said Alan Bethke, Subaru of America vice president of marketing, in a statement on Wednesday. "There is a new emphasis from consumers for improved connectivity in their vehicles. This system allows Subaru to deliver new levels of safety and security services, giving our customers added peace of mind."

Edmunds says: Car shoppers who put a premium on connectivity and will be in the market later this year will want to check out the new Subaru Starlink system.
