2017 Mercedes-AMG E43 Arrives at Dealerships Early Next Year: 2016 New York Auto Show

NEW YORK — The 2017 Mercedes-AMG E43, the high-performance version of the standard 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class midsize luxury sedan, will go on sale early next year at Mercedes-Benz dealerships after a debut at the 2016 New York Auto Show.

"Basically, the Mercedes-AMG '43' models are our middle sport line, between the normal Mercedes-Benz models and the full-blown AMG models such as the E63," wrote Christian Bokich, a Mercedes-Benz spokesman in response to a query from Edmunds.

Pricing was not announced on the new Mercedes-AMG E43, but it is expected to start around $70,000.

Bokich said U.S. standard and optional equipment on the car has not been finalized.

The four-wheel-drive Mercedes-AMG E43 is designed to take on the Audi S6, but car shoppers may also consider high-end versions of the BMW 5 Series, as well as the Lexus GS F.

Performance is emphasized with the Mercedes-AMG E43, the most powerful version of the luxury sedan. It is equipped with a 396-horsepower 3.0-liter biturbo V6 engine and a nine-speed automatic transmission.

It has a 0-60 mph time of 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph.

In comparison, the standard 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine delivers 241 hp.

The redesigned 2017 E-Class debuted at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show and arrives at Mercedes-Benz dealerships in the spring.

Options on the Mercedes-AMG E43 include 20-inch wheels and AMG seats.

Edmunds says: Luxury shoppers will be able to fly under the radar with this potent, yet conservative-looking version of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
