2016 Toyota Mirai Program Aimed at "Trailblazing" Customers

TORRANCE, California — A select group of customers will be eligible for a 2016 Toyota Mirai Trailblazer support program for the hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, Toyota announced on Monday.

Toyota began taking orders from California residents for the Mirai on Monday, calling prospective owners "the bold and the few."

The program "is designed to enhance the purchase and ownership experience," Toyota said in a statement.

Customers can choose from a Trailblazer lease of $499 per month for 36 months with $3,649 due at signing or Trailblazer Purchase Support of $7,500. Another option is Trailblazer APR Support of zero percent for 60 months, plus $7,500 cash.

The program will be available to all 2016 Mirai customers who have eligible orders placed in the Mirai order request system or have taken delivery of their Mirai by December 31, 2015.

Eligible orders are those that have reached "dealer review" status.

The Mirai arrives at eight authorized California Toyota dealers starting in October. The dealers are Longo Toyota, Toyota of Orange, Toyota of Santa Monica, Tustin Toyota, Roseville Toyota, San Francisco Toyota, Steven Creek Toyota and Toyota Sunnyvale.

The Mirai is priced at $58,325, including an $825 destination charge.

The Mirai has a driving range of 312 miles, according to Toyota. The EPA has not posted official fuel economy numbers and driving range on the Mirai.

Key competitors to the Mirai include the Honda FCX Clarity and Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell vehicle.

Edmunds says: Trailblazers get a little incentive as the order books open on the Toyota Mirai.
