DETROIT — The 2015 Chevrolet Camaro SS Special Edition will arrive at dealerships next spring, following a fan-based naming contest and the car's formal introduction at the 2014 SEMA Show in Las Vegas in November.

Chevrolet spokesman Monte Doran told Edmunds that the limited-edition model will be made for three months, beginning in January, and GM will fill as many orders as it receives during that period.

Doran said pricing will be announced in January.

The special-edition Camaro SS will be available in coupe and convertible models, both with 2SS trim and all with exclusive Emerald Green Metallic paint, along with other unique exterior features.

These include the RS Appearance package (special grille, body-color trim, HID headlights and LED taillights); 21-inch Chrome Dusk wheels; body-color SS hood extractor, ground effects package and ZL1 rear spoiler; and Cyber Gray rally stripes.

The interior for all models will be black with Graphite Silver door panel and dashboard inserts. Convertibles will come with black tops.

Power is provided by a 6.2-liter V8 that puts out 426 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque with the standard six-speed manual transmission, or 400 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque with the optional six-speed automatic transmission.

Other options include a sunroof, dual-mode exhaust, navigation system and a Chevrolet Performance short-throw shifter.

To help give the new model a snappier name, Chevrolet is running a contest in which fans can submit suggestions at Facebook.com/chevycamaro or Twitter.com/Chevrolet, using the hashtag #NameThatCamaro.

"Chevrolet has made a tradition of offering special-edition models each spring, but this is the first time we've turned to the community of Camaro fans to name it," said Todd Christensen, Camaro marketing manager, in a statement. "We can't think of a better way to involve the owners and enthusiasts who have made it the segment's best-selling sports car for four years running."

Most of the ideas submitted so far seem to concentrate on the car's unique color, including Green Envy, Jaded, Irish Green, Grasshopper, Emerald Muscle, Kryptonite, The Hulk and Jade Grenade.

Doran said there will be no prize for the contest winner, other than "the glory of naming a new Camaro model."

Edmunds says: The features and eye-catching color of the latest special edition model should appeal to a large number of Camaro shoppers.
