Just the Facts:
  • Lamborghini is offering a limited-edition driving moccasin as part of its 50th anniversary celebration.

SANT'AGATA BOLOGNESE, Italy — As part of its 50th anniversary celebration, Lamborghini has teamed up with Italian shoemaker Car Shoe to offer a special limited-edition driving moccasin.

Based on Car Shoe's best-known product, a hand-made calfskin moccasin first introduced in 1963, the Lamborghini version is distinguished by a metal 50th-anniversary logo on the side lace and Lamborghini shields on the back and insole.

Car Shoe, owned since 2001 by the Prada Group, makes a variety of men's and women's shoes, all distinguished by fine materials and elegant styling. But the company is best known for its driving moccasins, featuring studded rubber soles fittingly made from a compound similar to that used for tires.

While the cost of another 50th anniversary Lamborghini product, the special edition 2013 Aventador LP720-4, has yet to be announced, its estimated $400,000 price tag likely puts it out of reach of most buyers. The shoes, on the other hand, while not inexpensive, can be purchased at select stores and on the Car Shoe Web site for approximately $460.

However, some lucky Lamborghini enthusiasts got them for free. A pair of the Car Shoe moccasins was given to each participant in this week's 50th Anniversary Grand Tour. On Wednesday, 350 Lamborghini models from 29 countries departed from Milan for a 745-mile road trip through the Italian countryside, ending Saturday at the firm's home in Sant'Agata Bolognese.

The convoy, stretching 2.5 miles, is said to include at least one of every Lamborghini model ever made and is the largest such rally in the company's history. Special events over the weekend will offer plenty of opportunity for the public to look over the cars, shop in stores with extended hours, and enjoy dedicated Lamborghini menu items in area restaurants.

Edmunds says: They may not go from zero-62 mph in 2.9 seconds like a Lamborghini Aventador, but the Car Shoe moccasins make it possible to enter Lamborghini territory for a relatively bargain price.
