PEBBLE BEACH, California — Ford is extending production of the all-new Ford GT, the ultra-high-performance midengine sports car designed to take on the world's most exotic competitors, for an additional two years.
A Ford spokesman told Edmunds the additional production run likely will be labeled 2019 and 2020 models.
The 2017 Ford GT will begin arriving at Ford dealerships in December.
Prospective buyers were subject to a rigorous application process that ended in May.
"While we can't build enough Ford GTs for everyone who has applied, we are going to produce additional vehicles in an effort to satisfy more of our most loyal Ford ambassadors," Dave Pericak, Ford Performance global director, said in a statement. "We want to keep Ford GT exclusive, but at the same time, we know how vital this customer is to our brand."
The third year of GT production will "support applicants who were placed on the wait list," Ford said. "Previously deferred applicants and those who missed the initial application window will be served by production year four."
The application process for fourth-year production will reopen in early 2018.
Edmunds says: Great news for car shoppers who have the Ford GT high on their consideration lists.
