2015 Nissan GT-R Nismo Is Most Expensive 2015 Vehicle To Insure

FOSTER CITY, California — The 600-horsepower 2015 Nissan GT-R Nismo coupe is the most expensive 2015-model vehicle to insure, according to a new study by Insure.com.

The average annual premium for the top-of-the-line GT-R Nismo is $3,574.

The least expensive 2015 vehicle to insure is the 2015 Jeep Wrangler Sport 4WD two-door hardtop SUV, with a $1,134 annual bill.

In fact, Jeep vehicles account for three of 2015's 10 least expensive models for car insurance, the study said. Another Jeep vehicle, the two-wheel-drive Jeep Patriot Sport SUV, was second-least expensive, followed by the 2015 Honda CR-V four-wheel-drive SUV.

"The costliest 2015s to insure are high-end Porsches, BMWs and other sports cars that typically sell for more than $100,000 and can hit around 200 mph," the study said.

Other vehicles that come with the year's highest insurance costs include the 2015 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG convertible and the Dodge SRT Viper coupe.

The 2015 GT-R Nismo is priced at $151,585, including a $1,595 destination charge.

"Insurance rates are all about claims — how many and how big," said Penny Gusner, a consumer analyst at Insure.com, in a statement. "Cars that are cheapest to insure typically are easy to repair or have fewer claims or both."

The study examined insurance rates for 1,522 models. Prices were from six large insurers: Allstate, Farmers, Geico, Nationwide, Progressive and State Farm.

The study also noted "though relative rankings should remain the same, the underlying cost of car insurance varies wildly by state."

Edmunds says: Some eye-opening information for car shoppers who are figuring insurance costs into the equation.
