2015 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Recalled To Fix Door-Jamb Component

WASHINGTONMercedes-Benz USA is recalling 5,586 2015 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vans to fix a door-jamb component, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

"In the affected vehicles, the abutting wedge, a component attached to the door jamb to make opening the door easier after a severe frontal impact, may have been installed incorrectly," said NHTSA in its recall summary. "If a vehicle that has an incorrectly installed abutting wedge is involved in a severe frontal accident, a greater force may be necessary to open the doors, increasing the risk of injury."

A Mercedes-Benz spokeswoman did not respond immediately to a query from Edmunds asking if there are any injuries, crashes or fatalities linked to the recall.

The affected vans were built from July 1, 2014 to October 14, 2014.

Sprinter dealers will check the installation of the abutting wedge and correct it as necessary. The recall is expected to begin in March. Owners can contact Sprinter customer service at (877) 762-8267.

Edmunds says: This recall is expected to begin shortly. Once you receive notification from Sprinter, schedule a service appointment with your dealer.
