AUBURN HILLS, Michigan — Dodge dealers have stopped taking orders for the hot 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat muscle cars due to "unprecedented demand," FCA US confirmed for Edmunds on Monday.
"Due to unprecedented demand for the 2015 Dodge Charger and Challenger SRT Hellcats, we are temporarily restricting orders while we validate current orders that are in the system," the company said in a statement.
There is no official word on when dealers will resume taking orders.
Demand for the 707-horsepower cars has exceeded expectations, although at the time the Challenger Hellcat debuted, Tim Kuniskis, president and CEO of the Dodge and SRT brands vowed to "build a Challenger Hellcat for every customer who wants one."
Dodge and SRT received more than 4,500 orders for the new 2015 Challenger SRT Hellcat in just the first five days after orders opened in September, the company said at the time.
The Hellcats are built in Brampton, Ontario.
Edmunds says: Prospective buyers of these hot cars should stay in touch with their dealers on when order-taking will resume.
