2015 Buick Encore, Chevrolet Trax Recalled for Tire Labeling Issue

WASHINGTON General Motors is recalling 19,831 2015 Buick Encore and Chevrolet Trax SUVs in the U.S. because they have tire placards that do not provide the rim size information, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

"If the label is missing front and rear rim size information, the owner may replace the rims with ones that are an incorrect size, increasing the risk of a crash," said NHTSA in its recall summary.

The effected Encore SUVs were built from August 26, 2014 to February 9, 2015. The effected Trax SUVs were built from October 13, 2014 to February 3, 2015.

The problem was discovered during an internal audit at GM Korea's Bupyeong plant, according to a GM document filed with NHTSA.

The label system was corrected on February 13, 2015 and vehicles in transit to Buick and Chevrolet dealers are being retrofitted with the correct label.

GM will notify owners and will send them a corrected label. A date has not been set for the recall. Owners can contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300 and Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020.

Edmunds says: Owners of these vehicles will want to put the labels on the vehicle's B-pillar once they arrive. Buick and Chevrolet dealers can answer any questions about this in the meantime.
