The second-generation BMW X5 M and X6 M arrive at BMW dealerships in early 2015.
Both are equipped with a 567-horsepower twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine linked to a new eight-speed M Steptronic transmission. Horsepower gets a 3 percent boost over the predecessor models, BMW said.
Both sprint from zero to 60 mph in 4.0 seconds, according to BMW. Torque has been increased by 53 pound-feet to 553 lb-ft.
The EPA has not released fuel economy numbers on the X5 M and X6 M.
Buyers get a choice of two new and exclusive paint choices: Long Beach Blue Metallic and Donington Grey Metallic.
Other details include standard M-specific forged 21-inch M light-alloy wheels and a new M leather steering wheel with integrated aluminum shift paddles.
A BMW M lap timer app for smartphones helps users map their personal driving style on the track. The app records the vehicle's speed, lateral and longitudinal acceleration, steering angle and accelerator position.
Edmunds says: Car shoppers in this luxury category will enjoy some major upgrades with these German twins and should not be put off by the measured price increase.
