DETROIT — The 2015 Aston Martin Vanquish coupe and convertible and Rapide S sedan are on sale now at U.S. dealerships with deliveries slated for the fourth quarter of 2014, Aston Martin said on Wednesday.
An eight-speed ZF automatic transmission is a major upgrade for the luxury cars.
Pricing has increased by $5,000 versus the 2014 models.
The 2015 Aston Martin Vanquish coupe starts at $287,820, including a $2,825 destination charge and gas-guzzler tax.
The 2015 Aston Martin Vanquish Volante, a convertible model, starts at $305,820, including shipping and gas-guzzler tax.
The 2015 Aston Martin Rapide S sedan starts at $207,820, including shipping and gas-guzzler tax.
Aston Martin said the new transmission, which replaces a six-speed automatic, is designed to improve "every major area of the cars' performance and fuel economy." The EPA has not posted 2015 fuel economy numbers on the Vanquish or Rapide S.
"Economy is boosted by 13 percent (in the Rapide S) and 7 percent (in the Vanquish) with the new transmission," said Aston Martin in a statement. The numbers refer to the U.S. combined cycle.
The 2014 Rapide and Vanquish return 13 mpg in city driving and 19 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA.
Aston Martin said the zero to 60 mph times for the Vanquish and Rapide S are reduced in the 2015 models. The Vanquish drops from 4.1 seconds to 3.6 seconds and the Rapide is capable of the same sprint in only 4.2 seconds, down by a half second from its previous figure of 4.7 seconds.
The 568-horsepower 5.9-liter V12 engine in the Vanquish gets a horsepower bump of 3 to 571 hp. The Rapide S moves from 550 to 552 hp.
Styling upgrades include new 10-spoke forged alloy wheel designs and new paint color options, including the availability of Diavalo Red, which previously was limited to the Aston Martin V12 Zagato.
Buyers can spice up the cabins with new leather trim color options, including Fandango Pink.
Key competitors to the Aston Martin Vanquish include the 2014-'15 Ferrari 458 Italia and 2015 Lamborghini Huracan. Key competitors to the Aston Martin Rapide S include the 2014-'15 Bentley Flying Spur and Rolls-Royce Ghost.
Edmunds says: The new transmission will be a major selling point for the 2015 Vanquish and Rapide S, something that should please dealers and consumers alike.
