2015-'16 Subaru Legacy, Outback Recalled for Fire Risk

WASHINGTON Subaru of America is recalling 2,893 2015-?16 Subaru Legacy sedans and Outback wagons for a potential fire risk, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. A stop-sale order is in effect until the vehicles can be repaired.

"Transmission oil may leak from a deformed seal cap on the propeller shaft yoke," said NHTSA in its recall summary. "If the transmission oil leaks onto the exhaust pipe, there is a possible risk of fire."

A Subaru spokesman did not respond immediately to a query from Edmunds asking if there are any fires, injuries, crashes or fatalities linked to the recall.

The affected vehicles were built from July 3, 2015 to July 27, 2015.

Subaru dealers will replace the propeller shaft. The recall is expected to begin on August 28. Owners can contact Subaru customer service at 1-800-782-2783.

Edmunds says: Subaru told NHTSA that parts will start shipping to dealers in mid-August, but that the initial supply will be limited. Owners of these cars should contact their dealers now for more information.
