2015-'16 Ford Transit Recalled for Side Curtain Airbag Problem

DEARBORN, Michigan Ford is recalling 37,905 2015-'16 Ford Transit low-roof vans in North America to fix a problem with the side curtain airbags, the automaker said on Thursday.

"It is possible the side curtain airbags are positioned incorrectly on either or both sides of the vehicle, which may influence side curtain airbag performance and increase the risk of injury in a crash," Ford said in a statement.

There are no accidents or injuries linked to the recall.

The affected Transit vans were built at Kansas City Assembly Plant from March 12, 2014 through March 18, 2016.

Ford dealers will inspect and adjust the side curtain airbags to the correct position. The recall is expected to begin on May 16. Owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332.

No information about the recall has been posted on the website of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which oversees vehicle safety in the U.S.

Edmunds says: Owners should wait for their official recall notice and then schedule a service appointment. But if you have an immediate concern, it's best to contact your dealer now.
