WASHINGTON — BMW of North America is recalling 7,544 vehicles, including the 2012-'15 BMW 320i, 320xi, 328i, 328xi, 335i, 335xi and ActiveHybrid3 cars, because a software problem may make the front side marker lights inoperative, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The recall also includes the 2014-'15 BMW 328d, 328xd and 2014-'15 328xd sports wagon.
New software inadvertently makes the front side marker lights inoperative in conjunction with the parking lights or headlights, NHTSA said.
"If the side marker lights do not illuminate, the vehicle may be less visible at night, increasing the risk of a crash," NHTSA said.
BMW told federal safety regulators there are no accidents or injuries linked to the recall.
Edmunds says: If you own one of these cars, wait for your official recall notice and then make a service appointment. But if you have an immediate concern, it's best to contact your dealer now.
