2016 Chevrolet Trax Midnight Edition Bound for Dealerships in Late February

DETROIT — The 2016 Chevrolet Trax Midnight Edition, a blacked-out version of the small SUV, will arrive at Chevrolet dealerships in late February, GM said on Monday.

The monochromatic model, which is based on the Trax LTZ, is priced at $26,625, including an $895 destination charge and the $500 Midnight Edition package.

Key details include black wheels, bezels, beltline molding and door handles, along with a black rear license plate appliqué.

The cabin gets seats with gray accents and floor mats with gray piping.

Chevrolet has jumped on the popular blacked-out trend with vehicles that include the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado Midnight Edition, which is on sale now.

The Trax competes against the Kia Soul, Mitsubishi Outlander Sport and Nissan Juke.

Chevrolet said the small SUV, which is on sale now at Chevrolet dealerships, has become "an important vehicle, bringing in new, younger and more female buyers to the brand."

The base 2016 Trax, a carryover vehicle with minimal changes, is priced at $21,195, including shipping.

Changes include four new exterior colors: Crimson Metallic, Sable Metallic, Cyber Gray Metallic and Champagne Silver Metallic.

The Trax was introduced in the 2015 model year. It is equipped with a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 138 horsepower. The engine is linked to a six-speed automatic transmission.

Edmunds says: Entry-level buyers can add an affordable custom look to their 2016 Trax, courtesy of the new Midnight Edition.
