Pricing will be announced next week, a Hyundai spokeswoman told Edmunds.
The G80, a large luxury sedan, takes aim at the Buick LaCrosse, Chrysler 300 and Volkswagen Passat. Hyundai is testing the luxury market with its new Genesis brand and says the G80 also will also compete against the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series and Lexus GS.
Car shoppers received some key details about the G80 on Thursday.
It will be available in a choice of rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive versions.
The base G80 is equipped with a 311-horsepower 3.8-liter V6 engine linked to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Buyers can also opt for a 420-hp 5.0-liter V8 engine mated to the same transmission.
A long list of standard safety features on the G80 includes automatic emergency braking, blind-spot detection, lane keeping assist, a rearview camera and smart cruise control.
Options include a head-up display and a 14-speaker Lexicon audio system.
Edmunds says: Car shoppers who have the 2017 Genesis G80 on their shopping lists get some key details, with pricing to follow shortly.
