HERNDON, Virginia — The 2017 Audi R8 coupe and the all-new 2017 Audi SQ7 SUV square off on both sides of a conflict between superheroes in the new Marvel film, Captain America: Civil War.
Other vehicles showcased in the movie include the 2017 Audi A4 sedan and 2017 Audi A7 Sportback.
In the movie, Captain America, played by Chris Evans, takes a turn behind the wheel of the SQ7, while his adversary, Robert Downey Jr. reprising his role as Iron Man, again pilots the V10-powered R8 supercar.
The 2017 SQ7, Audi's high-performance, turbodiesel-powered SUV goes on sale in Europe this spring, competing against vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz GL550 and the BMW X5 M.
An Audi spokesperson told Edmunds that arrival time at U.S. dealerships has not yet been confirmed.
In the film, the Avengers continue their efforts to safeguard humanity, but an incident involving the team results in collateral damage, which brings political pressure to institute a system of accountability with government oversight. This splits the Avengers into two camps, triggering the titular civil war.
The promotional campaign for the latest Marvel epic includes a new digital video, called "The Chase," created by the movie's directors.
The video, which showcases several of the vehicles from the film, demonstrates what happens when a regular family in their Audi SQ7 gets caught in the middle of a superhero chase scene.
The relationship between Audi and the Marvel universe is a long-standing one.
The first Iron Man movie, released in 2008, featured the latest versions of such models as the Audi R8 coupe, S5 coupe and Q5 SUV.
The R8 returned in a Spyder version for Iron Man 2 in 2010, along with the A5 coupe, and again for Iron Man 3 in 2013, accompanied by such models as the S7 and A8 sedans.
Marvel must love the Audi R8, because it also made an appearance in the 2015 blockbuster Avengers: Age of Ultron, which also featured the A3 Cabriolet and the TTS sports coupe.
Edmunds says: Chase scenes are a must in any superhero movie, and Audi has successfully entrenched itself as the vehicle of choice in the Marvel universe.
