MONTEREY, California — The updated 2016 Lexus LX 570 flagship SUV will arrive at Lexus dealerships in October, featuring a new eight-speed automatic transmission and a redesigned exterior look. It debuts at the 2015 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.
Lexus spokeswoman Allison Takahashi told Edmunds that pricing will be announced closer to the launch date.
Other enhancements to the 2016 LX 570 include more standard safety features, an upgraded multimedia system with a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen and a panoramic-view camera.
The eight-passenger LX 570 is equipped with a carryover 5.7-liter V8 engine that produces 383 horsepower and 403 pound-feet of torque. The new eight-speed automatic transmission replaces the previous six-speed automatic transmission.
The EPA has not announced fuel economy numbers on the 2016 LX 570.
A new Drive Mode Select system lets the driver adjust powertrain and suspension responses by using a dial on the console. The choices include a fuel-efficient Eco mode, along with Comfort, Sport S and Sport S+ modes. The Comfort mode delivers the smoothest ride, while the Sport modes yield a sportier driving feel.
Exterior changes include a more dramatic Lexus spindle grille, standard LED headlights, turn signals and foglights, and new 20-inch split 10-spoke wheels. New 21-inch 10-spoke wheels are optional.
The panoramic view camera helps the driver see the area around the vehicle when maneuvering in tight spaces or hitching a trailer.
Safety features include 10 standard airbags and the Lexus Safety System +. It combines a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane-departure alert, intelligent high-beam lights and all-speed dynamic radar cruise control. There is also a standard blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert.
A new optional head-up display shows information including vehicle speed, dynamic cruise control and information icons.
Buyers can select from several new wood trim selections in the cabin, including Matte Walnut, Linear Dark Mocha, Linear Espresso and Dark Brown Walnut. A new three-spoke wood-rimmed steering wheel and LED lighting throughout the cabin add to the luxury feel.
Edmunds says: The LX 570 has always offered luxury buyers all-terrain and all-weather capability. Now it enters the fray with a bold new look and improvements inside and out.
