The group, which includes Acura, Hyundai, Mazda, Nissan (in Georgia) and Volkswagen dealerships, is giving a three-year lease on a Jetta to Lake County Schools' Teacher of the Year. The winner will be announced on February 28 at a celebration dinner.
The finalists are Justin Crouch of Umatilla High School, Julie Forgie of Windy Hill Middle School and Melissa Meadows of Treadway Elementary School.
The Jetta giveaway comes on the heels of Jenkins Auto Group giving Marion County's Teacher of the Year Bethany Crawford a lease last week on a 2015 Mazda 6.
"Don Jenkins is our owner and it was his idea to give back to teachers who work so hard for our children," said Allison Campbell, public relations director for Jenkins Auto Group.
Jenkins has already committed to making a similar gesture next year with one of the group's other brands.
Not only has the prize demonstrated the dealer's commitment to the community, but it's brought in at least one car buyer and will probably generate more, said Steve Tagliente, general manager of Jenkins Hyundai, which hosted the reveal party where the teachers first learned about the car prize.
"The day after the announcement, one of the finalist's families returned and bought a car they saw the previous day," Tagliente told Edmunds.
Edmunds says: This dealer group goes out of its way to support teachers and forges strong bonds to the local community.
