DEARBORN, Michigan — Ford will close the books on May 12 in the U.S. on the application process for the highly anticipated 2017 Ford GT ultrahigh-performance midengine sports car.
The application process in the Asia-Pacific region runs until May 24.
At last count, more than 8,000 would-be buyers filed applications for the GT, Ford spokesman Matt Leaver told Edmunds on Wednesday.
A final number will be released on Thursday, along with details on regional interest in the car.
Leaver said Ford marketing personnel will notify prospective buyers today by e-mail, reminding them to finish any incomplete applications.
He said the automaker would not be extending the application period.
The 2017 GT will start arriving at Ford dealerships in December. Production is limited to 250 units per year and the initial ordering period will cover 500 vehicles or the first two years of production.
Edmunds says: Ford enthusiasts are running out of time to raise their hands for the GT of their dreams.
