Summer's here and your results are in for the Best Convertibles survey. With cool retro style and personalities ranging from a boulevard cruiser (the V6 with 210 hp) to boulevard bruiser (Shelby GT 500 with 540 hp), the Ford Mustang galloped to the lead with 15.6 percent of the votes. The well-rounded Chevrolet Corvette, long a mainstay for "bang for the buck" sports car enthusiasts, came in 2nd with 13.9 percent. Last up on the podium and nipping at the Corvette's massive rear tires is the purists' delight, the midengine, super nimble Porsche Boxster, with 13.2 percent.

What Edmunds.com says:
More than just a show pony, the 2009 Ford Mustang offers enthusiasts on a budget a tempting combination of potent performance and timeless styling. Given today's gas prices, though, the Mustang's prodigious thirst detracts from its appeal.
What Edmunds.com says:
For the money, you're not going to get a better all-around sports car than the 2009 Chevrolet Corvette.
What Edmunds.com says:
The 2009 Porsche Boxster remains one of the most desirable roadsters on the market, as long as you don't mind that its shape hasn't really changed since 1997.

4. BMW 3 Series
What Edmunds.com says:
Subtle styling updates and an available broad-shouldered diesel power plant put a layer of icing on our favorite entry-level luxury car, the 2009 BMW 3 Series.

5. BMW Z4 (Tie)
What Edmunds.com says:
The all-new 2009 BMW Z4 has moved upscale in terms of both performance and luxury. It's an impressive package, but the electric power steering is uncharacteristically numb for a BMW.

5. Mazda MX-5 Miata (Tie)
What Edmunds.com says:
Although not as stylish or powerful as General Motors' roadster twins, the 2009 Mazda MX-5 Miata is still unequaled when it comes to overall driving enjoyment and refinement.

7. Honda S2000
What Edmunds.com says:
The high-revving 2009 Honda S2000 continues to serve up generous portions of performance for the price, although its familiar exterior styling is wearing a little thin.
What Edmunds.com says:
While convertibles bearing the Mercedes-Benz name have always offered luxury, solidity and brand cachet, the 2009 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class does them one better -- it's a genuine driver's car.

9. Audi TT
What Edmunds.com says:
Thanks to a distinctive design and respectable driving dynamics, the 2009 Audi TT coupe and roadster offers a balance of performance, sophistication and style.

10. Volvo C70
What Edmunds.com says:
The 2009 Volvo C70's trick folding hardtop and comprehensive list of safety features makes it a worthy choice as a premium convertible, but its lack of performance may leave some drivers dissatisfied.

11. Nissan 350Z
What Edmunds.com says:
The 2009 Nissan 350Z roadster still presents one of the best performance values in the sports car segment.

12. BMW 1 Series (Tie)
What Edmunds.com says:
For the money, it's hard to think of a car that puts together as much performance, handling, refinement and user-friendliness in one package as the 2009 BMW 1 Series.

12. Mini Cooper (Tie)
What Edmunds.com says:
A marvelous marriage of British character and German know-how, the 2009 Mini Cooper is stylish, fun to drive and remarkably good on gas.

12. Volkswagen Eos (Tie)
What Edmunds.com says:
The 2009 Volkswagen Eos offers sun lovers ultimate versatility with its retractable hardtop and built-in sunroof. This wind-in-your-hair drop top is not to be missed for those shopping in the $30K-$40K price range.
What Edmunds.com says:
Though it's not without its flaws, the 2009 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder's mix of unusual styling, comfortable front seating and sporty performance make it a worthy choice among sub-$30,000 convertibles.
What Edmunds.com says:
The 2009 Volkswagen New Beetle is still an aesthetically pleasing alternative to more traditional compact cars. But unless you're enamored with the car's exterior design, this is one small coupe or convertible you'll want to skip.

17. Pontiac Solstice (Tie)
What Edmunds.com says:
The 2009 Pontiac Solstice combines head-turning styling and respectable performance at an attractive price. But when it comes to refinement, the Solstice is bested by aesthetically less glamorous rivals.

17. Saab 9-3 (Tie)
What Edmunds.com says:
The 2009 Saab 9-3 is still an able, attractive entry-luxury car, but German and Japanese rivals possess newer designs, superior performance and better build quality.

19. Pontiac G6
What Edmunds.com says:
Although one of the few midsize nameplates to offer sedan, coupe and convertible body styles, the 2009 Pontiac G6 fails to stand out in any of the classes in which it competes.
