TORRANCE, California — Toyota is recalling approximately 803,000 vehicles in the U.S., including the 2012-'13 Toyota Camry, Camry Hybrid, Avalon, Avalon Hybrid and Venza due to a problem with the air-conditioning condensers.

Toyota told Edmunds that the defect has led to two minor injuries, but no accidents.

"Water from the air-conditioning condenser unit housing could leak onto the airbag control module and cause a short circuit, resulting in illumination of the airbag warning light," said Toyota in a statement on Thursday. "In some instances, the airbag(s) could become disabled or could inadvertently deploy.

"In limited instances, the power steering assist function could also become inoperable if a communication line in the airbag control module is damaged."

Toyota said loss of power assist results in increased steering effort.

Toyota dealers will apply sealant and install a cover to the air-conditioning condenser unit-housing seam located above the airbag control module.

The recall is expected to begin in early November. Owners can contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.

No information about the recall has been posted on the Web site of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which oversees vehicle recalls in the U.S.

Edmunds says: This is an issue you'll want to address quickly once you receive your recall notice. If you have a problem in the meantime, take your car into the dealership immediately.
