From the Vault: Edmunds' 2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor

Way Better Than Jurassic World

[This week's short retrospective article has Brent Romans looking back at our 2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor, a vehicle we owned and reported on back when it was new. It was part of our long-term test program, and we drove it about 30,000 miles over the course of a year. Make sure to check out the original wrap-up article we wrote on the Raptor as well as individual blog-style posts. We also have more than 15 brand-new vehicles we're testing in our long-term program right now.]

What's the Most Memorable Thing You Did With the Raptor?
A friend of mine and I took the day off to drive the Raptor on some fire and utility roads in the Sierra National Forest, about 80 miles northeast of Fresno, California. It had rained the day before, so a lot of the roads were muddy. We were just out there having fun. At one point we found this terminated roadway/bridge thing (in the photo above). Parking the Raptor right at the end of the roadway made for a fun picture, but I will admit to having brief delusions of Fast & Furious truck-jumping grandeur.

What Did You Like the Most About It?
It was just a really cool and special truck. There had been hotrod trucks before but never a factory-tuned off-roader meant for high-speed desert driving. Our truck looked badass in black, too. I loved driving it. When it left our long-term fleet, I know a lot of our staff members were bummed out.

How Much Is It Worth Now?
Value is impressively strong. A few are on CarMax right now for around $30,000. When new, our truck cost around $40,000. Check out this one, for instance. Only 58,000 miles! You can also find newer Raptors of this F-150 generation up to 2014.

If You Came Across This SVT Raptor Again, and You Had the Money, Would You Buy It?
Definitely. It was very tempting to tell my wife about how we should buy a used Raptor after looking up pricing for this report.
