Top 12 Most Fuel-Efficient Coupes for 2013

Coupes announce to the world that you're the sort of carefree driver whose passenger count rarely exceeds one or two. Driving enjoyment, not practicality, is of paramount importance to many coupe buyers, and this segment is home to some of the sportiest choices on the market. However, these days it's possible to get the best of all worlds, and there are many coupes that also count superior fuel economy among their assets.

The 12 picks that follow (our list is longer than the usual 10 due to ties) are the most fuel-efficient coupes for 2013. Our list includes a microcar — the Smart Fortwo — along with two-door versions of popular family sedans such as the Honda Accord and Nissan Altima. Affordable sports cars such as the Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S also make a showing, along with a handful of more glamorous luxury models, such as the BMW 6 Series.

Our rankings are based on the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) miles-per-gallon ratings for city and highway travel. Each vehicle's placement is determined by its combined fuel economy rating. We used the EPA's combined fuel economy formula: 55 percent of city mpg rating plus 45 percent of highway mpg rating.
